Tummy Tuck Cosmetic Plastic Surgery

Tummy tuck is a very individual and personal procedure and your reasons for doing it should be yours. Do not try to fulfill the ideal image your partner or spouse has in his head about how you should look. A tummy tuck (also called an abdominoplasty) offers a cosmetic way to enhance your appearance,or is used to restore a woman's tummy to its original shape and position.

Here are some things to know before your tummy tuck procedure:

* A tummy tuck is performed in a hospital or medical clinic setting by a plastic surgeon. One or two overnight stays will be required.

* The procedure takes approximately three hours and requires a general anesthetic.

* There will be a moderate to severe amount of pain, but prescription pain medication will greatly alleviate it.

* The incisions will be placed from hip to hip in the pubic hair region. The length of the incision will differ in each case, depending on how much fat and skin needs to be removed.

* The belly button will be removed with a small incision and relocated to a region that appears naturally aligned with the person's midsection. If a patient is opting for a mini-tummy tuck, the belly button may not need to be altered.

* Drains will be placed in the abdominal region during surgery in order to collect excess fluid and stop its accumulation. The drains are often left in place for several weeks post-op. If the drains are left, the patient will be instructed by the physician in cleaning and changing them.

* A compression garment, known as an abdominal binder, will need to be worn for four to six weeks post-op in order to support the healing regions.

* After post-op healing occurs, a patient will need to incorporate regular physical fitness and activity into their lifestyle in order to remain in good shape. The improved appearance that results from a tummy tuck can be kept permanently if good health habits are observed.

If you are ready to have the ideal look of a flattened and trim abdomen, make an appointment with a reputable plastic surgeon (Paule Banwell) to see which method will work for you.
